E-scooter company Unagi wants to transform the way people think about ride-sharing systems.

The company recently announced that it would be offering an exclusive version of its e-scooters that will be available to rent at apartments, coworking spaces, and hotels.

The program “Unagi on Demand” will first be available at Los Angeles’ Hoxton Hotel, Common Luxury Apartments, Nap York Sleeping Pods, and The Yard Coworking in New York city.

“We like for people to get exposed to experience in a hotel and then want one for their everyday use,” David Hyman, CEO and founder of Unagi. “Essentially, it’s not our core business, but complementary. We started it because of numerous inbound requests.”

Companies that are partnering to provide Unagi’s e-scooters will receive a revenue share between zero and 10%, with many simply looking to offer an alternative mode of transportation for their guests.

“Unagi is a perfect fit with the culture, community, and design focus of our coworking spaces.” said Michelle Segev, senior operations manager at The Yard.  “Unagi adds a super convenient transportation amenity to members at the Yard, allowing them to focus on their business rather than the logistics of running errands and getting to meetings around the city.’

The shared economy has exploded onto the scene over the last few years, but the spread of Covid-19 led to a dip in revenue for many of these companies. By teaming up with prominent real estate developers, Unagi hopes to expand its services while also marketing its spaces to other interested partners.
