What’s going on:
As pandemic restrictions in China and Hong Kong have been lifted, Chinese companies have been driving the demand for premium coworking spaces in Hong Kong’s Central business district, according to The Business Times.
Why it matters:
In March, The Executive Centre (the largest provider of flexible workspaces in Central’s premium buildings), noted a 500% surge in new leases compared to January, with approximately 70% being sourced from mainland China.
Hong Kong is increasingly becoming a hub for businesses from all types of industries, with technology, media and gaming being the main industries.
Instead of looking for traditional offices, these firms tend to prefer flexible space to rent.
How it’ll impact the future:
Due to the popularization of remote and hybrid working, coworking is a hugely desired option for workers who value flexibility. Hong Kong is one example of a city whose flexible office industry is seeing immense growth.
