What’s happening?

OpenAI is set to introduce a highly enhanced version of its large language model, ChatGPT, for ChatGPT Plus subscribers. This new version will allow ChatGPT to access plug-ins and the internet, amplifying its functionalities significantly. The update started rolling out last Friday, coming with an optional beta feature for web browsing and plug-in access. The number of available plug-ins, which were initially tested by a few early-access users in late March, has leapt from just 11 to over 70.

Why it matters:

The addition of plug-ins and internet access to ChatGPT is a game-changing development. The plug-ins enable ChatGPT to carry out more complex tasks, interact with specialized databases, and provide real-time access to various online services, such as weather updates, flight booking, deal finding, and recipe searching. The internet access will enable ChatGPT to fetch up-to-date information, analogous to Bing Chat and Google Bard. This will transform how people utilize ChatGPT, broadening its usage spectrum.

How it’ll impact the future of work:

As OpenAI’s ChatGPT continues to advance, it has the potential to revolutionize the future of work by functioning as an even more proficient digital assistant. The addition of plug-ins and internet access could automate and streamline various tasks, from simple ones like checking weather updates to more complex ones like booking flights or accessing niche knowledge bases. As the AI gets more proficient at orchestrating tasks through multiple plug-ins, it could lead to increased efficiency and productivity, changing the dynamic of workplaces.
