Is the digital commute taking a toll on your back? Finding the right chair for remote and hybrid work could make the difference between having a productive or unproductive workday.

Sitting in my generic office chair, in an uncomfortable position all day, has caused myself and many others in the workforce to suffer with lower back pain. That’s why I jumped at the opportunity to review one of the premium chairs offered by FlexiSpot.

FlexiSpot is a company that offers ergonomic furniture to address the needs of workers worldwide. The company focuses on designing ergonomic office furniture, eco-friendly, and practical products for either the home office or workplace.

I used the C7 chair for a couple of weeks prior to writing this review, and I can report that my personal lower back pain was eased compared to when I was using my old office chair. I can thank the designer who added the lower back support to the chair, but we’ll get to that later in the review.

Features and Aesthetics

The C7 is a premium ergonomic office chair with unique features that can accommodate different seating positions in addition to multiple body types. The chair offers a sleek design and also supports up to 300 lbs.

The chair’s features include:

  • Adjustable headrest,
  • Self-adaptive back support
  • Breathable mesh back
  • 4D adjustable armrest
  • Biomimetic back support
  • Adjustable height
  • Forward seat tilt
  • 90°-128° recline

The chair’s cushion is made from a thin mesh material and is supported by a sturdy, durable frame. If one is curious about the actual material that goes into making one of these chairs, the company lists them on the products webpage as: Polyester, Nylon, Spandex, Nylon Plastic, Polypropylene, and Iron.

There is another version of the C7 model that offers a unique style of foam cushion. Notably, the price tag stands at $349.99 at the time of this review — $110 cheaper than the mesh cushion model. However, the model I received and am currently reviewing is the C7-Mesh, which costs $389.99 at the time of this review.

That being said, FlexiSpot’s Black Friday Sale features an extra $30 off by using the code “BFFSAFF30.” The sale runs from Nov. 1 to Dec. 11 and is applicable to the E7 Premium Standing Desk, E7 Pro Standing Desk, and also the C7 Ergonomic Chairs. Check FlexiSpot’s website for more details.

The chair can accommodate many seating positions throughout the work day. At the beginning of the day, one might want to lean forward as they scan all their important morning emails, but as the day progresses a professional might wish to recline and admire all of the work they’ve accomplished throughout the day. The C7 chair can accommodate this. As demonstrated on the product’s web page, other sitting positions include leaning back, and even cross-legged sitting.

As far as color options go, I’ll quote the American manufacturing pioneer Henry Ford when he famously said, “Any color the customer wants, as long as it’s black.” But I’ll let you know that for FlexiSpot’s C7 ergonomic office chair, a combination of gray and black is also an option — for $20 more.

Ergonomics

Compared to the more generic office chairs that I have previously used, the best improvements that I personally found were in the lower back area — where my back felt healthier and more relieved as I endured similar hours of sitting.

The form of back support that you receive from the chair is entirely up to you. Using the adjustable features, you can make the chair have more on the fly adjustable movements or make it have firmer support with less movement.

There’s also built-in slide adjustments that help you adjust the cushion forward and backwards to increase the distance and personal comfort from the back support.

Assembly

However, it’s not all fun and games. Before you can enjoy the reward of sweet back relief, there is some assembly required. If you order online, you will receive the chair in a box and it will require following specific instructions packaged with the product. Please note that some parts are heavy and assembly might actually require two people. I would also recommend assembling it away from fragile objects or belongings just in case you accidentally drop the base.

Capability

That being said, even if you do happen to drop the base, you’ll have nothing to fear because the product is highly durable. FlexiSpot raves about its C7 build quality, and I can attest that this chair is of high quality and “built to last,” as they state on their website. In fact, even if a part or mechanism in the chair were found to be defective upon receiving, the furniture company backs up to a 10-year warranty on certain product parts.

Review Breakdown

I found working in this chair to be a wonderful experience, and I would recommend this product for remote and hybrid workers looking to step up their productivity and overall comfort while behind the screen. Once you get past assembling the product, you’ll find that it’s very easy to use and you can adjust to your perfect settings.

PROS:

  • Durable with solid build quality; feels like it’s made to last
  • Sleek design
  • Many unique/adjustable features
  • Lower back support is great

CONS:

  • Heavy and this might cause challenges when assembling
  • Limited color options
  • Steep price
