77 U.K.-based offices offered by Workspace Group, a flexible office space provider, are set to be powered by solar energy generated in Devon.
According to insights reported by The Telegraph, Workspace Group has entered into a 10-year Corporate Power Purchase Agreement with Statkraft, Europe’s largest generator of renewable energy — including hydro, wind, and solar power.
Under this agreement, a new solar panel farm in Devon, capable of producing a reported 22 gigawatts per year, will supply about two-thirds of the electricity needed for Workspace’s 77 offices across London and the South of England. The transition to renewable energy is set to begin in February.
London’s green office space projects have taken off in 2023. Bloomberg reports that an unprecedented 43 construction projects, amounting to 5.1 million square feet of space, broke ground in the city within the six months leading up to September 2023 — with a key driving force being the increase in demand for environmentally friendly office spaces.
The move to utilize solar energy by Workspace Group reflects this heightened demand for green spaces in the city, but it also shows how flexible workspace providers are investing in green office spaces too. U.K.-based businesses are increasingly recognizing the importance of reducing their carbon footprint and, in anticipation of updated emission standards and practices, are taking steps to integrate green energy solutions into their operations.
