This is followed by the Midwest and the West Coast.

Rochester, NY, was identified as the best city overall for summer work, thanks to numerous job openings and a high rate of health insurance coverage among part-time employees. According to Coworking Cafe, Rochester offers more than 5,100 part-time job openings per 100,000 residents aged 16 to 24. 80% of these roles are reported to provide health insurance. The city also has a high percentage of young part-time workers compared to full-time workers and its relatively low competition for youth-focused jobs.

Charleston, SC, ranked second, standing out as a prime location for young job-seekers on the South-Atlantic coast. According to coworking cafe, the city offers 5,700 part-time job openings per 100,000 residents aged 16 to 24, with 70% of these jobs including health insurance.

Everett, WA, took third place with the highest number of part-time job openings per capita among the cities surveyed. Everett is reported to support its summertime workforce with 69% of part-time jobs offering health insurance and a low youth idle rate (29%).

Other notable cities in the top five include Hartford, CT, and Syracuse, NY. Hartford combines good job support metrics with substantial part-time job availability, while Syracuse excels in health coverage and part-time work prevalence.

Health insurance coverage in part-time roles throughout these cities also reveals how more employers now are supporting the well-being of young workers, which could lead to higher job satisfaction and higher retention rates. It’s a reminder that it's not just employers that are competing for young people; U.S. cities are also vying to attract young people to work and live within metro areas. As areas continue to compete for talent by providing attractive employment conditions, it could set new standards and expectations from young professionals.
