Jeju Island, a popular South Korean tourist destination, is stepping up its efforts to attract remote workers with the introduction of a new “Jeju-Style” Digital Nomad Visa.
This program will allow international digital nomads to extend their stay beyond the island’s current visa-free period, enabling them to work remotely for overseas companies while enjoying the unique workcation experience Jeju offers, Travel + Leisure Asia reports.
The initiative, developed by the Jeju government in partnership with the Jeju International Convention Center, aims to create a seamless blend of work and leisure.
Recently, they hosted the “Jeju Workcation with Global Digital Nomads” event to gauge interest and gather feedback from remote workers globally. This event helped inform the launch of the new visa, which is distinct from South Korea’s national digital nomad visa introduced earlier in 2024.
The “Jeju-Style” visa is designed to cater to the island’s distinct workcation lifestyle, attracting remote workers who seek to combine professional work with vacation in a scenic, relaxing environment.
By offering this visa, Jeju hopes to stimulate economic growth and draw global digital talent to the island.
Although Jeju Island has been visa-free for tourists since 2002, allowing them to stay up to 30 days without a visa, this new digital nomad visa introduces an opportunity for longer stays.
Visitors will need to apply for the Jeju-style visa in addition to their regular South Korean visa. The initiative is expected to expand tourism possibilities, welcoming a new wave of remote workers to the island.
