LinkedIn Adds Duolingo Language Scores To Help Candidates Impress Recruiters

The Duolingo Score, which ranges up to 160 points, shows how much of a language course a user has completed and what skills they’ve gained, offering a clearer picture of their practical language abilities.

Duolingo has launched a new feature that allows language learners to display their proficiency on LinkedIn using the “Duolingo Score,” aiming to help job seekers and employers better assess language skills in the hiring process, according to Inc.

This update, revealed at Duolingo’s recent conference, lets users link their Duolingo account to their LinkedIn profile, where the score automatically updates in the Languages section.

The Duolingo Score, which ranges up to 160 points, shows how much of a language course a user has completed and what skills they’ve gained, offering a clearer picture of their practical language abilities. By adding this score, candidates can provide hiring managers with more concrete evidence of their skills, moving beyond LinkedIn’s usual self-reported language levels.

Employers often struggle to gauge true language proficiency from traditional profile descriptions. Duolingo’s score aligns with established standards like the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) but offers a more nuanced and current snapshot of language ability.

This can improve recruitment decisions, especially for roles that require strong communication skills in multiple languages.

Initially available for Spanish, French, and English learners, Duolingo plans to expand the feature to more languages. The company encourages candidates to also include formal language test results to enhance credibility.
