NBCUniversal is tightening its return-to-office policy, requiring employees to work on-site Monday through Thursday starting in January. Those unwilling to comply will have the option to leave the company with a severance package.
The offer, available to employees at the vice president level and below in the U.S. and U.K., includes eight weeks of base salary, three months of health insurance, and a full bonus — provided they remain through the end of the year and assist with knowledge transfer, according to BisNow.Â
Chief Operating Officer Adam Miller emphasized the value of in-person collaboration in the company-wide memo, stating that being physically together encourages innovation, creativity, and stronger team dynamics.
NBCU’s move follows a similar announcement from rival Paramount, which recently mandated a five-day in-office schedule beginning in January after its acquisition by Skydance Media. The change came shortly after David Ellison, son of Oracle CEO Larry Ellison, took over as CEO.
On the federal level, former President Donald Trump also moved to eliminate remote work among government employees, signing an executive order in January that directed agencies to phase out telework arrangements and return staff to the office five days a week.
