On-demand coworking app Deskimo has raised a $3 million seed round as it prepares for a soft launch in Jakarta. The company currently services Singapore and Hong Kong.
The startup was founded just this year by the former head of Rocket Internet Asia Raphael Cohen and Christian Mischler, cofounder of Foodpanda, HotelQuickly, and GuestReady.
Deskimo operates by partnering up with companies that use a hybrid work model, offering remote workers an opportunity to go into coworking spaces such as WeWork, The Hive, Executive Centre and others when needed.
For its Jakarta launch, Deskimo has partnered with over 40 workspaces and plans to add between 10 to 20 more locations by the end of the year.
In the regions it services, the startup seeks workspaces that are outside of central business districts in order to accommodate people who want to work closer to home. In fact, one-third of Deskimo’s spaces are situated in residential areas in Hong Kong and Singapore.
Since its launch, the company has added new services such as meeting room booking abilities, and it is currently in the process of experimenting with a subscription service.
“As COVID-related restrictions continue to ease, we expect spaces to become more busy, which is why we’ll continue to add options to the app to ensure availability in proximity to all Deskimo users,” said Mischler.
