SC Johnson’s administration building and research tower in Racine, Wisconsin, has become well-known for being a one-of-a-kind corporate headquarter building. The administration building’s “Great Workroom” was designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s, showcasing a unique approach to office design.

Vox’s Phil Edwards visited the headquarters to find out, as well as work there.

Built in 1939, this office was designed for the future of work. This building set the trend for having showpiece company headquarters, such as Google, etc.

“When Herbert Johnson built SC Johnson’s corporate headquarters having a big showpiece headquarters for office workers was rare. In 1939, this was the future of work. This building, it’s the beginning of these big corporate campuses. The Googles and Metas and Amazons owe a debt to this campus,” Edwards said in Vox’s Youtube video.

Wright later wrote that this building was the future. In the end, Edwards said working from his laptop from this building was like working from anywhere, just with a different background.
