Mere days after Twitter made headlines for its 50% layoff spree, the company is reportedly crawling back to recently fired employees. 

The layoffs were conducted last week as part of Elon Musk’s takeover of the platform, impacting around 3,700 staffers. However, management is now reaching out to some workers to claim that their firing was a mistake.

While some workers were informed about their firing via email, others only realized they were cut after being locked out of Twitter’s internal systems. 

Musk’s hasty decision to fire several of the company’s executives and a chunk of the company quickly grabbed headlines in the days following his takeover. His reasoning? Twitter is  “losing over $4M/day,” Musk tweeted.

Of those who are left, reports have emerged that workers tasked with new projects have been sleeping in the company’s offices to meet deadlines. 

Musk has also gotten rid of Twitter’s remote-first model, which it implemented at the beginning of the pandemic. Additionally, he has begun the process of rolling out a new subscription fee for verified users, which is expected to go into effect following the U.S. midterm elections this week.
