RTO Mandates Are Boosting Office Occupancy Across Major Metros

Leaders have started to expect employees back in the office much to the delight of landlords — and chagrin of employees. 

According to data released from the Partnership for New York City last September, it was found that 49% of office workers were back in the office, up from the 38% seen in April 2022. By the end of January, the group anticipates that this number will have grown to 54%.

Now, data from Kastle Systems finds that occupancy in New York reached 47.2% on January 18, an increase from the 45.6% seen on January 12. At this pace, the city is on track to see healthy recovery, albeit not a full pre-pandemic rebound. 

New York’s return-to-office rate has been slower than other large cities across the country, but Kastle’s data shows that the overall growth could be a good sign for the future of office occupancy.
