Indian Workforce Optimistic as AI Promises Greater Productivity

A growing number of professionals in India are taking an optimistic view on the role that artificial intelligence (AI) will play in the workforce.ย

Over half of Indian respondents in a recent survey published by PwC called โ€œIndia Workforce Hopes and Fears Survey 2023โ€ believe AI will enhance their productivity at work. This optimism is substantially high when compared to global respondents in the survey, where only 31% shared the same positive sentiments.ย ย

Considering the rapid advancements in AI and its increasing integration in the workforce across different industries, optimism may actually become more common in the upcoming years. According to an analysis of the data published by Business Today, only 24% of Indian respondents in the survey said they believe AI would impact the nature of their work in a negative way.ย ย

The impact of AI’s widespread adoption by the global workforce will be profound. Key developers of consumer generative AI tools, including Microsoft, Google, Open AI, Meta, IBM and others, promise not only to enhance workerโ€™s efficiency but many developers envision the creation of new job roles centered around AI management, development, and oversight.ย ย

This will also contribute to the rise in demand for AI literacy and related technological skills. According to the survey, 62% of Indian respondents agree that the skills require for their job will change significantly in the next five years, compared to 36% of the global respondents. Educational institutions and vocational training centers are increasingly focusing on these areas, preparing the future workforce for an AI-centric work environment.ย
