According to a recent article published by CNBC, there is a rising number of American workers being hired by international companies. CNBC cites the State of Global Hiring Report published by HR platform Deel, revealing a 62% growth in such hiring practices last year.
This trend is attributed partly due to the decline in remote job opportunities in the U.S. labor market, leading Americans to seek out remote work positions abroad. It’s reported that the U.K., Canada, France, Singapore, and Australia are the top countries hiring U.S. workers.
These workers are typically between 25 and 34 years old and often possess in-demand skills necessary for roles including research, sales, software engineering, and content creation. The data reveals that these workers often live in major U.S. cities like San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Austin, and Miami.
However, working for an international company remotely also has its challenges, such as dealing with tax and HR compliance, adjusting to different time zones, understanding cultural differences, and adapting to various work styles and norms.
The hiring trend reflects the growing demands for flexibility from workers in the U.S., and it further suggests that collaboration is becoming increasingly global — with more cross-border hiring and the blending of diverse work cultures and practices. This shift could lead to more flexible and diverse work environments that allow for greater competition for talent.
