Half of temporary workers engaged in remote work at least part-time in 2023.  

The data was recently published in the Staffing Industry Analysts’ North America Temporary Work Survey 2024 which reveals that 36% of temps worked entirely remotely — while another 15% did so partially.

The survey garnered opinions of 3,434 North American temporary workers. Interestingly, only 18% of office and administrative support roles were performed fully remotely.  

Remote work is also revealed to be more pronounced among higher-paid professionals. According to the data, 63% of those earning $60 or more per hour completed entire assignments remotely.

However, remote work opportunities are not uniformly distributed across industries. Some sectors like computer/math and business/financial have reportedly seen a decrease in remote work since 2020, while traditionally on-site roles such as production jobs have experienced an uptick. In 2020, 94% of the computer/math segment were working remotely or part time. However, in 2023, the report reveals that percentage fell to 86%. 

As businesses and workers alike adapt to changes in the labor market, remote work has become an integral part of the temporary employment landscape with its influence likely to continue shaping job markets and workforce strategies this year.
