Singapore’s Ministry of Manpower has mandated that starting December 1, 2024, all employers must consider their workers’ requests for flexible work arrangements — which will include requests for four-day work weeks, increased work-from-home days, and staggered work timings. Â
This government policy aligns with the global trend of governments and companies adopting more accommodating office arrangements to help retain top talent and promote work-life balance. The U.K. has a simliar policy.Â
According to a report published by Bloomberg, employees will also be entitled to request other arrangements, such as flexible work locations, by the end of 2024.Â

By mandating companies must at least consider requests for flexible work options, Singapore’s government is acknowledging and adapting to these evolving expectations.Â
