A class action lawsuit has been filed against RTX Corporation, previously known as Raytheon Technologies, for allegedly discriminating against job seekers aged 40 and older. 

The suit, brought by the AARP Foundation and two law firms in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, claims that Raytheon’s job advertisements favored younger applicants — violating the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Massachusetts Fair Employment Practices Act, and the Virginia Human Rights Act.

The complaint highlights that job ads for “Recent Graduate Positions” implicitly exclude older workers by requiring applicants to have graduated recently or have limited work experience. 

These positions, although entry-level, offer salaries exceeding $100,000.

RTX denies the allegations, affirming its compliance with age discrimination laws and its commitment to a diverse workforce, according to CNN. 

“RTX complies with all relevant age discrimination laws and we’re committed to maintaining a diverse workforce. We believe these claims are entirely without merit and we will actively defend our hiring practices,” company spokesman Chris Johnson said. 

Mark H. Goldstein, the sole named plaintiff at the moment, has extensive experience but was never hired by Raytheon despite meeting all qualifications except for the recency of his degrees or work experience. 

He had previously filed a discrimination charge with the EEOC, which found that Raytheon’s job ads indeed discriminated based on age.

Though Raytheon altered some ad language post-EEOC findings, the complaint asserts that the changes still marginalize older applicants.
