Gen Z is leading with purpose and confidence, with 48% believing they’ll outperform millennials as managers while redefining success through balance, inclusion, and mental health awareness.

In the midst of rising living costs, environmental anxiety, and global unrest, Generation Z is still managing to find optimism — and they’re bringing that perspective into both their personal lives and the workplace.

Driving Social Change

According to an EduBirdie survey, Gen Z is taking action on issues that matter to them and pushing for a more open and inclusive culture. Key areas where they believe they’ve made noticeable progress include:

  • Normalizing mental health conversations (46%)
  • Promoting better work-life balance (37%)
  • Advocating for inclusivity (36%)

These contributions reflect a generation that’s not afraid to challenge old norms and push for healthier ways of living and working.

Stereotypes and Misunderstandings at Work

Despite their efforts, many Gen Z workers face persistent stereotypes. Criticized for being inflexible, overly sensitive, or disengaged, some have internalized the negativity. In fact, 31% of Gen Z say their own generation is the most annoying in the office.

These perceptions carry real consequences in the workplace:

  • 80% feel they have been mistreated at work
  • 38% say they’ve been called lazy for refusing to work overtime
  • 29% believe hiring managers have passed them over
  • 28% feel their ideas and skills are overlooked or dismissed

This data shows how generational bias can impact career development and morale, even for a group actively working to create positive change.

A New Approach to Leadership

Looking forward, Gen Z is confident in their ability to lead differently. 48% believe they will make better managers than millennials, with a stronger commitment to fairness and standing up for what’s right.

Rather than accepting the status quo, they aim to challenge unfair practices and build workplaces that reflect their values.

Gen Z may be coming of age in a complex world, but they aren’t shying away from the challenges. They are already shaping conversations around mental health, work-life expectations, and inclusivity.
