Steps to being a digital nomad

The digital nomadic lifestyle has grown exponentially thanks to technological advancements. This blend of travel and work has its pros and cons, but there are steps to take to ensure that this work style is as efficient as it is productive.

First, getting the most out of a meeting can be difficult when working remotely. Stepping over someone’s words can get in the way of having a fulfilling meeting with colleagues. To prevent this, Greg Caplan, CEO of Remote Year, says to implement a ‘All or Nothing’ rule. That is, if one person cannot be physically present for a meeting, then everyone must individually call in to the video chat privately in order to give everyone equal representation.

Additionally, making sure your equipment runs efficiently can make remote working that much easier. The proper laptop, fast internet, proper productivity apps, earbuds, and more guarantees that a remote worker will get the most out of their day.

Many credit cards offer access to lounges throughout multiple airports that is perfect for on-the-go workers. Finding a coworking community that suits your workstyle can also be beneficial. Despite being away from fellow colleagues, coworking spaces give a chance to network with like-minded people.

“If you’re planning a longer stint away, digital nomad ‘hubs’ like Valencia, Spain; Lisbon, Portugal; Medellin, Colombia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Chiang Mai, Thailand; and Bali, Indonesia are great places to begin,” according to CNN.

These hubs are safe, provide great internet, have multiple work space choices, and already have a strong digital nomad community.

Tiffany Owens, creator of Modern-Day Nomads, an online community and resource for North American nomads, says the most important thing is to slow down when travelling and take the time to fully immerse yourself in new cities.
