Waste-management software company Rubicon has filed a lawsuit to kick out workspace provider Knotel from an office space in the Salesforce Tower in Atlanta. The suit also hopes to regain over $150,000 in unpaid rent for May and June.
The serviced office operator subleased the space last December from Rubicon, where rent was $77,318.24 per month. Rubicon added that Knotel not only owed rent, but also a 10% late fee that it agreed to pay as part of the sublease arrangement and that the court remove Knotel from the premises immediately.
Towards the end of May, Knotel’s chief investment officer Jonathan Goldberg sent a letter to Rubicon stating that the economic impact of the current pandemic has prevented it from paying rent.
“The duration of the force majeure event, under the circumstances is not determinable at this time,” Goldberg wrote in the letter. “During the period of the force majeure event, any rental payments under the sublease shall be abated to the extent permitted under the sublease or under any applicable laws or governmental orders.”
Additionally, a contractor for Warren-Hanks Construction Company that worked on the space has filed a lien against the property and stated that Knotel owes it $80,000.
