Apple is one of several big tech companies that has been at the center of a ‘will they, won’t they?’ attempt to bring staff back to their offices by the third quarter of the year.
Now the company is reportedly pushing its return-to-office mandate, originally planned for September, back to October — citing concerns over Covid variants.
This may come as a relief to Apple workers. Many staff have voiced their displeasure at the company’s flexible work policy, with workers claiming that getting remote work requests approved is nearly impossible.
Now, Apple has become one of the first U.S. tech giants to delay plans for a return to ‘normality’ as Covid-19 continues to spread around the world, fueled by an increase in highly transmissible variants.
Going forward, Apple will reportedly give its employees at least a month’s warning before mandating a return to offices. But with cases and hospitalizations once again rising in the U.S., some staff will feel that October is still too soon.
