TikTok Could Provide Companies Leads For New Talent

While TikTok may be viewed as a platform for dance videos and quirky humor, the social media giant may actually bring professionals and recent graduates into the workforce.

In July, TikTok launched a pilot program that allowed people to upload video resumes that could be seen by employers. Although the program lasted just one month, incorporating this unusual method of job-seeking may actually help companies that are struggling to bring aboard new talent.

For instance, many companies within the service industry have struggled to find workers over the past 18 months as the pandemic ravaged business. Despite many restaurants reopening and business surging, employment in this industry remains dormant.

Thatโ€™s why restaurants such as Chipotle and Sweetgreen have turned to TikTok to hire people posting their resume videos.

TikTok can serve as a lead generator for businesses struggling to retain workers. By using the platform, leaders can quickly find Gen Z workers, while showing the prospect that they are up-to-date on the latest trends.

Since people between the ages of 10 to 29 make up nearly half of TikTok users, employers are guaranteed to find young talent that can help meet their innovative goals.

However, there are definite downsides on the job seekersโ€™ side of TikTok video resumes, such as privacy concerns and potential discrimination. Still, using the platform can provide employers access to a whole new talent pool.
