REC Philly has announced their new flagship site in Philadelphia’s Fashion District that will be aimed at creatives, such as musicians and video artists.
The 10,000 square foot facility is expected to open this fall on the second floor of The Gallery. It will feature creative tools for members, such as a recording studio, visuals lab, and common areas for collaborating and networking.
“In layman’s terms, we built a gym membership model for creative people,” said co-founder Will Toms. “We also provide education. We’re growing our programming all the time, specifically to help creative folks look at themselves as entrepreneurs.”
The coworking firm, who secured $3 million in funding, had investors including technology investor Steve Finn and Southbox Entertainment founder Jon Gosier, who wanted a more hands-on involvement in the new location.
REC hopes to perfect their model and expand to other cities such as Washington D.C. and Austin over the next five years, and eventually have an international presence in the next decade.
