One would think that today’s high tech offices and business centers would be especially attuned to such things as ergonomics and hazardous procedures that wreak havoc with health and safety.
Not necessarily so!
According to a recent study from Antea Group, occupational illness costs businesses in the high tech sector upwards of $170 billion each year.
While no names were mentioned in the study, it’s hard not to notice that some of today’s most unique and prestigious buildings are owned and operated by technology firms. And many are truly jaw dropping in their sophistication and unique designs. But how safe are they? In 2014 alone companies faced environmental fines of $100 million, with another $9.7 billion in environmental corrective actions.
What’s happening? Below is an infographic, courtesy of Antea Group, which puts the spotlight on some common workplace hazards that might be costing your high tech business center thousands of dollars.
Just because the infographic focuses on high tech, doesn’t mean all business center and coworking space operators shouldn’t take heed. Perhaps this is a good time to get the clipboard out and do some ‘hazard’ trouble-shooting for your space.
What may look and feel good on the outside may be toxic on the inside.
