New research from Owl Labs shows that 47% of UK respondents want companies to embrace the metaverse in the workplace.
In fact, the research revealed that 54% of the UK population is optimistic that introducing the metaverse into the workplace would enhance hybrid work models, while 65% of respondents believe that the metaverse could improve overall flexibility in the workplace
Additionally, 52% stated that this technology would help connect in-person and remote workers.
and 34% claimed it could address issues of proximity bias that can occur with hybrid work arrangements.
Overall, the UK is anticipating a wider adoption of immersive technology to help improve hybrid work practices. For instance, 52% of respondents stated that they desire better video conferencing technology, and 44% claimed that they are ready to adopt workplace VR.
Maybe more predictably, there appears to be a stark divide between workers who are demanding these technological advancements. In fact, workers between 18 and 24 were the most open to using the metaverse at 54%, while just 38% of those over 65 years old felt the same.
“Through our own experience, we already know how innovative technology can create an environment where everyone feels like they’re in the same room regardless of location,” said Frank Weishaupt, CEO of Owl Labs. “As hybrid work can present potential challenges around presentism and a divide between the in person and remote workforce, immersive technology can boost inclusion and create a more united workforce.”
