Instagram has introduced a new feature that will allow users to create and donate to fundraisers through Reels in preparation for Earth Day.Â
Fundraising via Reels is currently available across over 30 countries and will support donations for 1.5 million nonprofits. Meta will take transactional fees from personal fundraisers, but will cover processing fees for donations to charities. Â
According to Meta, over $150 million has been donated towards climate change and other environmental causes through Facebook and Instagram’s fundraising feature.Â
The average Instagram user donation comes in at just under $20. Currently, the nonprofits with the most donors are The Ocean Cleanup, World Wildlife Fund, and Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.Â
In addition to the fundraising feature, Meta has added custom stickers to both Instagram and Messenger designed by illustrator Ping Zhu, as well as profile frames on Facebook, and conservation VR experiences.Â
