Virginia is emerging as a premier state for remote workers in 2024.

Business Insider recently published an analysis of data from Desky, an ergonomic furniture maker, which identified the top 10 U.S. states for remote work based on job openings, internet speeds, and electricity costs.

Virginia boasts an average internet speed of 505.6 Mbps, an electricity cost of 12.4 cents per kilowatt-hour, and 23 remote job openings per 10,000 people, according to the report. The state’s high-speed internet and reasonable utility costs are cited as what make it an attractive option for those looking to work from home efficiently.

The top 10 states were:

  1. Virginia
  2. Washington
  3. Arizona
  4. Delaware
  5. Maryland
  6. Texas
  7. Tennessee
  8. Georgia
  9. Louisiana
  10. Oklahoma

This ranking shows how multiple factors impact an individual’s decision when choosing a location for remote work. High-speed internet and low electricity costs are important for maintaining high productivity and managing monthly living expenses. Additionally, the availability of remote job openings is a good indicator of a supportive job market for remote workers.

Understanding which states offer the best conditions can help individuals make informed decisions about where to live and work. The findings highlight the states that excel in providing the necessary infrastructure and opportunities for successful remote work.
