Kenya Unveils Digital Nomad Work Permit And Visa-Free Travel

Kenya has introduced a Digital Nomad Work Permit and a visa-free travel policy as part of efforts to boost its tourism industry. Announced by President William Ruto at the 2024 Magical Kenya Travel Expo, the Digital Nomad Work Permit allows remote workers from around the globe to live and work in Kenya, according to Citizen Digital.ย

The initiative aims to attract digital nomads to experience Kenya’s vibrant culture while contributing to local economies. In addition to this, a visa-free policy has been established for visitors from certain countries, facilitating easier tourist and business travel to Kenya.

These policies are part of Kenya’s plan to rejuvenate its tourism sector, which reported revenues of Ksh 352 billion from over 2 million visitors in 2023. The government aims to attract 5 million tourists per year by 2027.

This new policy not only incentivizes remote work and tourism but also will cultivate economic growth, innovation, and cultural exchange.
