The House Budget Committee passed a budget blueprint on Thursday for $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and $1.5 trillion in spending reductions over the next decade. 

As part of this, the House Education and Workforce Committee has been directed to cut at least $330 billion, with potential measures that could significantly impact higher education, according to Inside Higher Ed.

Republicans argue the reductions are necessary to fund $300 billion in new immigration and defense spending, while also allowing for a $4 trillion increase in the debt ceiling. 

The proposed cuts raise serious concerns for the workforce, as they could reduce access to education and job training, leaving workers with fewer opportunities to develop skills and potentially burdened with more student loan debt — making it harder to achieve long-term economic stability.
