Deloitte is revamping its approach to employee well-being by allowing U.S. staff to use part of their annual wellness subsidy on stress-relieving items such as Lego sets, puzzles, and gaming consoles. The change is part of an updated benefits program that began with the start of the company’s financial year on June 1.

The new policy, detailed in internal documents and reported by Business Insider, increases the flexibility of Deloitte’s wellness reimbursement initiative. Most salaried employees can now claim up to $1,000 annually for approved items and services that support mental, physical, or financial health.

Newly eligible purchases range from kitchen appliances and ergonomic pillows to spa treatments and popular gaming systems.

The update has generated buzz among Deloitte’s workforce, which totaled nearly 173,000 in the U.S. in 2024. Internal conversations reportedly reflect enthusiasm, with employees expressing lighthearted excitement over the opportunity to purchase high-end Lego sets like the Millennium Falcon from the Star Wars series under the wellness allowance.

While many employees view the benefit as a positive way to manage the pressures of demanding workloads, not everyone is convinced. Some have expressed skepticism, suggesting that such perks are a superficial remedy for deeper workplace challenges.

The refreshed benefits program arrived during a period of strain for Deloitte’s U.S. operations, particularly within its government consulting division. A wave of contract reductions — at least 127 federal agreements altered or canceled by April 2025 due to federal budget cuts — has led to workforce reductions.

Deloitte Consulting leadership confirmed that a small segment of employees in the government unit would be affected by layoffs.

As Deloitte navigates these headwinds, the expanded wellness subsidy may serve as both a morale booster and a nod to the growing recognition of employee mental health in high-pressure corporate environments.
