43% Of U.K. Workers Say Using AI Makes You Look Lazy — But 81% Use It Anyway

AI is everywhere at work, but nearly half of U.K. employees think using it looks lazy — and a quarter feel judged for it. Trust issues, unclear guidance, and stigma may be slowing meaningful adoption.

43% Of U.K. Workers Say Using AI Makes You Look Lazy — But 81% Use It Anyway

Despite widespread use, AI at work still carries a stigma, with many U.K. employees feeling judged or mistrusted.

Nearly half of U.K. employees believe using AI at work is seen as either lazy or untrustworthy, according to a new survey by SnapLogic. The poll showed that 43% felt stigma around AI use in the workplace, while almost a quarter reported feeling judged or second-guessed when using AI tools.

Despite this perception, AI is already widely integrated into daily work routines. The report found that 81% of respondents use AI in their roles, with 57% relying on AI agents to save time each week.

Interestingly, employees showed nearly equal trust in AI (22%) and their colleagues (23%) to deliver work of the same quality.

Experts say the issue is less about the technology itself and more about trust and workplace culture.

Tim Flower, VP of digital employee experience at Nexthink, stressed the importance of leadership in demystifying AI. He recommended that companies highlight its practical benefits and provide targeted training to help employees understand and embrace its use, according to HR Magazine.

Flower described AI as a “creative partner” that can remove friction and enhance decision-making. He added that effective adoption involves giving AI a defined role, making its presence visible, and encouraging responsible use through clear guidance.

Ronni Zehavi, CEO of HR software firm HiBob, echoed the sentiment, noting that hesitation is natural during workplace transitions. He pointed out that trust, not technology, is the real challenge. Open communication, supportive training, and transparent policies are key to helping employees feel confident and capable when using AI.

Zehavi also suggested that HR teams play a crucial role in normalizing AI use by setting clear expectations and promoting learning. Instead of focusing on enforcing compliance, organisations should measure adoption and comfort levels to ensure AI brings meaningful productivity gains.
