Instagram employees in the United States will soon be required to work from an office five days a week, a shift parent company Meta confirmed on Monday. The change begins February 2, 2026, marking one of the most aggressive in-office mandates within the company’s portfolio, according to CNBC.Â
Push for Faster Product Cycles
The move is tied to Instagram leadership’s effort to strengthen creativity, speed, and hands-on collaboration. Internal communication from Instagram head Adam Mosseri, referenced in the Sources newsletter, outlined a desire for fewer meetings and more tangible product experimentation.Â
Teams are being encouraged to share early prototypes rather than polished decks or lengthy documentation.

Meta clarified that this new policy does not extend to the employees of the rest of its apps, including Facebook and WhatsApp.Â
Those divisions remain under Meta’s broader return-to-office rules, which since September 2023 have required employees to spend at least three days in the office per week.
Industry Trend Toward Full-Time Office Presence
Instagram’s mandate follows a trend among major companies rolling back hybrid arrangements. Amazon switched to a five-day office schedule in January 2025, while firms such as AT&T, Boeing, and Dell Technologies have also tightened attendance expectations.Â
Executives across industries have framed these decisions as necessary steps to rebuild collaboration, streamline workflows, and eliminate organizational friction that grew during years of remote work.
