A new survey shows federal employee engagement has dropped significantly, with just 32% of workers reporting they are satisfied and engaged in their jobs, according to the Partnership for Public Service and reported by Politico.Â
The decline is evident across major agencies. Satisfaction levels were reported at 20% within the Department of Health and Human Services, 22.5% at the Treasury Department, and 8.1% at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. More than half of respondents said their engagement has worsened over the past year, and no agency in the survey recorded an improvement.
The findings follow a year of workforce disruption tied to changes under the Trump administration, including staff reductions and agency restructuring. At the same time, the federal government paused its long-running employee survey conducted by the Office of Personnel Management, limiting direct comparisons to prior years. The new survey drew responses from about 11,000 workers, a smaller sample than previous federal surveys.
Responses also point to declining confidence in leadership and workplace protections. Fewer employees said they trust leadership to act with integrity, prevent political interference, or protect workers who report potential violations.
