These 10 Jobs Are Too “Superhuman” For AI To Replace

Construction, aviation, mining, and forestry dominated the rankings, showing physically demanding, high-risk work remains among AI's toughest challenges.

As artificial intelligence automates more routine tasks, some occupations remain difficult to replace because they depend on physical ability, rapid judgment, and navigating unpredictable environments. A new analysis from Resume Now identifies the jobs that rely most heavily on what it calls “superhuman skills”—abilities that current AI systems struggle to replicate.

The ranking analyzed occupations across six abilities: stamina, strength, reaction time, spatial awareness, multitasking, and danger detection. Only 21 occupations earned a Superhuman Skills score of 600 or higher.

Top 10 AI-Resistant Jobs

  1. Firefighters — 699
  2. Airline Pilots, Copilots & Flight Engineers — 677
  3. Manufactured Building & Mobile Home Installers — 671
  4. Tree Trimmers & Pruners — 646
  5. Structural Iron & Steel Workers — 642
  6. Derrick Operators, Oil & Gas — 637
  7. Roof Bolters, Mining (tie) — 636
  8. Commercial Pilots (tie) — 636
  9. Fishing & Hunting Workers — 634
  10. Fallers — 633

What Makes These Jobs Difficult to Automate?

Firefighters topped the ranking because the role requires a combination of endurance, strength, fast reflexes, spatial awareness, and danger detection in unpredictable emergency situations. Airline pilots ranked second thanks to the need for rapid decision-making, navigation, multitasking, and risk detection, while the remaining occupations largely involve construction, aviation, mining, forestry, heavy equipment, or outdoor work.

The report suggests that many of today’s most AI-resistant jobs share a common trait: they require workers to continuously assess changing environments, react quickly, and make critical decisions where mistakes carry immediate consequences.
