Workplace AI Adoption Jumps As 52% Of Employees Now Use AI On The Job

Workers using AI across multiple tasks report the biggest productivity gains, with automation, coding and analytics leading the way.

Organizational adoption of artificial intelligence accelerated in the second quarter of 2026, with nearly half of U.S. employees now saying their employer has integrated AI tools into daily work, according to new Gallup research.

The share of employees reporting organization-wide AI adoption climbed from 41% in the first quarter to 47% in Q2. Meanwhile, one in five workers still say they are unsure whether their employer has adopted AI, suggesting many organizations have yet to clearly communicate their AI strategies.

AI Use Continues to Grow

Individual AI use is also becoming more common. More than half (52%) of U.S. employees now use AI as part of their job, while 30% use it at least a few times a week and 15% rely on it daily.

Writing and editing remain the most common AI application, used by 51% of AI users, followed closely by search and research (49%) and general problem-solving (39%).

More specialized applications remain less common, including data analytics (18%), presentation creation (17%), coding assistance (16%) and process automation (16%).

Frequent Users Expand Beyond Basic Tasks

Employees who use AI regularly are far more likely to apply it across multiple parts of their jobs rather than limiting it to writing or research.

Frequent users report greater use of AI for coding, automation, project management, communication and knowledge management, indicating that consistent users are integrating AI into more specialized workflows.

Specialized AI Delivers the Biggest Productivity Gains

Although writing and research are the most popular uses, employees report the largest productivity improvements from more technical applications.

More than three-quarters of workers using AI for coding assistance or process automation say it has improved their productivity. Employees also reported strong productivity gains from AI used for presentations and data analytics.

Writing, editing and research also received positive ratings, though fewer users said these tools significantly improved productivity compared with specialized applications.

Using AI Across More Tasks Increases Value

The research also found a strong link between the number of ways employees use AI and the productivity benefits they report.

Less than half of employees using AI for only one or two tasks said it meaningfully improved productivity. That share rose steadily as workers applied AI more broadly, reaching 90% among those using it across seven or more work activities.

While the findings do not prove that using more AI tools directly causes higher productivity, they suggest employees who integrate AI into multiple aspects of their work are far more likely to see measurable value.

AI Adoption Enters a New Phase

The report suggests workplace AI is moving beyond basic experimentation. As more organizations formally integrate AI into workflows, the next challenge may be helping employees move beyond occasional writing or research assistance toward role-specific applications that generate greater productivity gains.

Gallup’s findings also indicate that simply providing access to AI may not be enough. Organizations that help employees apply AI consistently across different job functions could see greater returns from their investments.
