Gen Z prioritizes entrepreneurship, foresees AI's impact, and values work-life balance.

Gen Z, the first generation to enter the workforce in the age of artificial intelligence (AI), is poised to adjust to the future of work on their own terms. A recent survey by Morning Consult, commissioned by Samsung Solve for Tomorrow, offers a glimpse into the mindset of this emerging generation and their vision for the workplace.

According to the survey, Gen Z is acutely aware of the impact AI will have on the workforce. While 21% believe AI will create more job opportunities for their generation, a notable 40% anticipate AI-driven disruptions in traditional industries. This awareness, however, doesn’t hinder their career ambitions.

Gen Z’s career aspirations showcase their adaptability and forward-thinking approach. According to the study, Gen Z is predominantly drawn to sectors known for innovation and creativity — with 33% attracted to Entertainment and Media, 30% to Technology and Design, and 24% eyeing careers in Health Industries.

A standout finding is Gen Z’s robust entrepreneurial spirit. 50% of the survey’s respondents expressed a desire to become entrepreneurs or start their own businesses. According to the findings, this inclination towards entrepreneurship is suggestive of Gen Z’s innovative outlook on their own career prospects, which includes a rising demand for greater autonomy and a determination to pave their own unique paths.

The Morning Consult survey, which polled over 1,000 U.S. students aged 16 to 25, also revealed that Gen Z envisions significant workplace changes in the coming decade. Many project a rise in the use of advanced technologies like AI and Virtual Reality (58%), growth in remote and flexible work options (41%), and a stronger emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion (36%).

The data also shows that Gen Z professionals value a balanced work-life experience, with 50% prioritizing work-life balance and career growth. They also recognize the importance of personal growth and adaptability, with 47% emphasizing the willingness to learn, 44% valuing creativity, and 40% highlighting leadership abilities.

Gen Z’s participation in the global workforce will help shape it for decades to come. It’s evident that they are not just passive participants but actively looking to innovate. Their unique perspectives, as revealed in the survey, are suggestive of rising trends that will likely continue to evolve and grow.
