New Data Reveals Alarming Rise In Workplace Violence As Employees Demand Legal Protections

While 75% of employees have received workplace violence prevention training, only 60% feel comfortable reporting safety threats without anonymity guarantees.

30% of full-time employees witnessed violence against coworkers within the past five years — up from 25% in 2024 — while 15% directly experienced violence themselves, an increase from 12% the previous year. This is according to Traliant’s new 2025 Employee Survey Report on Workplace Violence and Safety, which reveals a rise in reported incidents across U.S. workplaces.

These findings bring attention to the growing urgency for stronger prevention measures and more effective response strategies within organizations. The hospitality sector showed especially high exposure, with nearly half of workers reporting they had witnessed violence on the job.

While 75% of employees have received workplace violence prevention training, up from 70% in 2024, only 60% feel comfortable reporting safety threats without anonymity guarantees. A significant majority — 93%, up from 90% last year — support statewide laws mandating workplace violence prevention, similar to legislation in California and New York.

The survey signals that workplace safety requires a cultural shift toward proactive prevention and employee empowerment. Effective training programs that help staff identify risks early and respond confidently are essential steps to curb the rise in workplace violence.
