2019 was the year that technology finally nearly became fully integrated with how we live and work. As we begin the new year, it is anticipated that technology transformation will continue to flourish.

The role of CIO (chief information officer) will no longer be about creating barriers between IT and the company. Instead, they will remove them and help focus on innovative, big picture methods.

Several companies typically have invested in a huge amount of apps, despite many being difficult to use. In fact, study from Symantec CloudSOC found that while most CIOs believe their company uses around 30 to 40 cloud apps, the average enterprise has around 928 cloud apps in place. Moving forward, companies are expected to eliminate unnecessary digital apps so that employees can be as productive and satisfied as possible.

The new year is also expected to see flexible work become the norm, rather than a perk seen at a few companies. Enterprises will be ready to fully embrace flexible work models in order to retain top talent.

“By 2020 gig workers will comprise half the workforce and as much as 80% by 2030,” said Peter Miscovich of JLL Consulting.

Artificial intelligence (AI) will also become a more prominent part of the workplace thanks to the growing popularity of voice assistants that can help with organization, as well as bots that can complete menial tasks.
