Employees Are Considering Changing Careers

Employees Are Considering Changing Careers

A recent survey from FlexJobs shows that 68% of workers said they would consider changing careers, especially to obtain a better work-life balance.

The survey of over 4,600 employees revealed that professionals are reconsidering what they value most in life. After experiencing major losses due to the pandemic, workers’ priorities have shifted.

While employees are interested in seeking new positions that align better with their newfound values, they are not in a hurry to find new opportunities. In terms of how difficult it would be to find a new job, 28% said that a career change would be “pretty easy, my skills are transferable” and 53% said “it will be tough but manageable.”

However, a Joblist survey of former service workers revealed that half would not be returning to their old jobs, and one-third would not return to the industry altogether. This is in line with previous data that shows leisure and hospitality workers having higher resignation rates in June.

One desire that has been consistent across several industries is flexibility. Employees want the ability to create their own schedules, work from their own chosen environment and have more freedom in how they operate.
