TikTok is introducing a new feature to combat a problem that the platform’s users know all too well: endless scrolling.
Now, the company is incorporating features that are made to keep users from scrolling infinitely through its short-form videos by showing reminders to limit their screen time after long-term usage.
For teenage users, a pop-up will recommend cutting down their screen time if they go beyond 100 minutes on the app within a single day.
TikTok’s update also includes a new screen time dashboard, allowing users to see how often the app is opened, as well as their daytime and nighttime usage.
Concerns over the impact that social media overuse has on mental and physical health has risen in recent years, leading other platforms to introduce similar tools that encourage people to take time away from their phones.
