  • Hot-desking is a workspace system in which desks are used by different people at different times, on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • The Coworking Insights 2022 Hot Desk Price Index Report analyzed data from more than 172 countries to see how price competition is changing.
  • The global annual hot desking price change between 2021-2022 was +9%.

As the coworking industry continues to adjust to new post-pandemic trends in remote working, analyzing global hot desk prices can be helpful in order to understand the ongoing demand for available workspace.

Hot-desking is a workspace system in which desks are used by different people at different times, on a first-come, first-served basis. Hot desks can be implemented in private offices as well as coworking spaces.

Maximize Flexible Space Revenue

If you’re looking to expand your coworking operations to a new location, it’s beneficial to know which market would generate the greatest potential return.

In the Coworking Insights 2022 Hot Desk Price Index Report, data from over 19,500 spaces in more than 172 countries was analyzed to see how price competition is changing. It also compares data from 2018 to present to demonstrate how prices have evolved over the last five years around the world.

Here are some key insights:

  • In 2022, the global average monthly hot desk price was $206 USD
  • The global annual change between 2021-2022 was +9%
  • Global desk prices rose from $189 to $206 per month in 2022

Coworking Insights believes this increase was mainly driven by the consequences of the pandemic, which caused operators to restructure their business models in order to remain competitive.

“Large networks (such as WeWork and Regus) introduced flat rate all-access passes to multiple locations, giving members even more options with regards to where they work. With widespread inflation putting upward pressure on global pricing, giving individuals more choice for their money was a necessary value add in a post-Covid environment,” according to the report.

What countries are seeing the highest coworking center growth?

This year, eight out of the top 10 cities with the highest average hot desk prices were in Switzerland, including Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne, Lucerne, Winterthur, Zug, and Zurich. This is compared to 2020, when four out of the top 10 most expensive cities were in Switzerland, showing both the growth and competitive nature of the country’s market for coworking.
