Embrace AI or Be Left Behind Nvidia CEO Tells Graduates

What’s going on:

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang recently delivered a commencement speech at National Taiwan University, discussing the future of work and the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on various industries, according to Fortune.

During the commencement speech, Huang acknowledged that the new technology would make many jobs obsolete. However, he also said that the rise of AI will create new opportunities in fields like data engineering. Huang emphasized the importance for graduates to embrace these technological changes as they enter the workforce.

Why it matters:

Huang is an influential figure in the rise of AI. As CEO of Nvidia, he’s at the helm of an industry-leading company in chip manufacturing and graphic card development. The technology is greatly utilized by AI software.

The company is one of the major forces guiding the future direction of AI technology. NVIDIA reached a staggering $1 trillion market cap at the start of trading on Tuesday and slipped back to $990 billion before the markets closed, according to CNBC.

Huang’s speech hints at the transformative potential of emerging technologies and the opportunities they present for the workforce. The commencement speech follows a recent keynote presentation where Huang introduced an AI platform called DGX GH200. The new platform allows people to produce code from natural language prompts.

Major technological decisions made by NVIDIA may influence businesses and organizations that are introducing AI technologies into their workflow.

How it’ll impact the future:

As AI technologies become more advanced, it will likely influence the rise of automated labor across various professions. These changes are anticipated to eliminate jobs but also create new opportunities, as Huang mentioned in his speech.

Over the next decade, Huang predicts that over $1 trillion of traditional computers will be upgraded or replaced with ones better suited for AI. This kind of transformation will require both individuals and businesses in the workforce to adapt and leverage AI to maintain their competitiveness.
