Peloton Enters the Workplace with Peloton for Business

What’s going on:

Peloton Interactive Inc., known for its home gym equipment, is looking to reposition itself as a workplace perk through an initiative called Peloton for Business, according to Bloomberg. The new initiative is targeting small and midsized business clients by making it easier for them to offer Peloton services to their employees and customers.

The company plans to expand into businesses by allowing employers to offer its app as a worker benefit, along with discounts on gym equipment. Peloton also stated that it aims to expand its presence in seven areas, including: hotels, corporate wellness, apartment buildings, education, health care, and neighborhood gyms.

Why it matters:

Peloton’s move comes at a time when it tries to recover from negative impacts of the post-pandemic economy that severely affected its finances, according to Bloomberg. It’s reported that the company faced an inventory glut, five consecutive quarters of sales declines, and a stock rout that erased over 90% of its value. Peloton’s repositioning is part of a broader strategy to meet customers where they are and adapt to changing market conditions in the workforce. Its foray into the corporate wellness market reflects a shift in focus and an attempt to tap into a growing trend of businesses prioritizing the health and well-being of employees and customers.

How it’ll impact the future:

As businesses prioritize the health and well-being of their employees, offerings like Peloton for Business could become a standard part of employee benefits packages. These kinds of offerings could impact attraction and retention strategies at businesses. Peloton’s strategy to go where the customers are is a move that could encourage other companies in the fitness and wellness sector to target workplaces.
