German public sector unions Verdi and dbb are demanding a pay hike of 8%, or at least 350 euros per month, for the around 2.5 million civil servants and other public sector employees in the federal government and municipalities, the dbb union said in a statement on Wednesday.

This demand comes as negotiations for better wages intensify, reflecting rising living costs and inflation. The unions argue that the proposed increase is essential to ensure fair compensation for public sector workers who provide crucial services.

The statement from dbb highlights the urgency of the situation, as many workers are feeling the financial strain from rising prices. The unions are expected to push hard for these demands during upcoming negotiations with the federal government and municipal authorities.ย

If an agreement is not reached, it could lead to strikes or protests, as public sector workers seek to secure better pay and working conditions.
