Health insurance is a crucial factor in employee retention: 60% of workers say high premiums would drive them to consider leaving their current job, making affordable health coverage a key aspect of staying with a company.

In today’s competitive job market, workers are placing more value on their benefits packages, and health insurance is at the forefront.

While salary remains the top reason for employees to stay in their roles — 81% cited competitive pay as a retention factor — health benefits are gaining importance. According to a recent survey, 64% of workers would stay in their current positions if offered a strong health benefits package.

Furthermore, employees are increasingly dissatisfied with what their current employers offer. A substantial 62% of workers would consider quitting if their employer didn’t offer health insurance at all, with 59% pointing to high monthly premiums and 60% frustrated by high out-of-pocket costs.

The trend of workers looking for better health insurance is especially strong among younger generations. Gen Z, in particular, places a high value on health coverage, ranking it as their top priority.

Younger workers, especially those dealing with student debt or just starting their careers, view reliable health coverage as a means of financial security.

For employers, this change in priorities means attracting and retaining talent requires offering more than just a paycheck. While competitive salaries are still essential, today’s workers want comprehensive benefits that include affordable and flexible health insurance.

Companies offering options like Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements, which give employees the freedom to choose their health plans while allowing employers to control costs, are gaining traction.

Ultimately, businesses that meet these expectations are more likely to retain talent. Workers are increasingly looking for benefits that fit their lifestyle and long-term needs. Employers who focus on affordable, high-quality health coverage can stand out in a crowded job market and create a loyal, engaged workforce.
