On Wednesday, LinkedIn introduced its new artificial intelligence-powered chatbot designed to act as a personal job search and networking assistant for users.
The chatbot, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4, should help LinkedIn users evaluate job opportunities and improve chances of securing employment. LinkedIn Premium’s users will be able to interact with the chatbot to receive personalized advice on their suitability for specific roles, tips on positioning themselves more effectively, and additional insights into potential gaps in their overall experience. The chatbot also facilitates networking by connecting users with potential contacts within target companies.
According to LinkedIn’s official announcement, “Our new AI-powered experience will analyze your feed’s posts (from the commentary to the article to the conversation) and reveal the key salient opportunities for you…in one simple click… in seconds. It will take on the hard work of parsing through long articles, videos and posts and give you ideas on how the information can be helpful to you. Then you’ll get to spend your valuable time taking action on it.”
This innovation comes at a time when LinkedIn is striving to reinvigorate its overall revenue growth. The announcement follows eight consecutive quarters of slowing expansion, according to a report published by CNBC. The announcement of LinkedIn’s AI assistant also comes after it revealed plans to lay off 668 employees across its engineering, talent, and finance teams.
On the upswing, LinkedIn has surpassed 1 billion members — suggesting that while the company has financially grown more slowly than it estimated, the role it plays in the professional landscape is still significant.
LinkedIn’s investment in AI-powered tools, including automated recruiter messages, job descriptions, and profile writing suggestions, reveals a growing number of use cases for the generative AI technology and a trend towards leveraging AI to enhance efficiency and user experience on social networks.
