A study published by Coursera analyzed the growing preferences for microcredentials at universities, and found three-fourths of students prefer school that offer certifications alongside traditional degrees.ย
The data reflects how young people are carefully considering their future career prospects before entering the professional workforce โ often questioning the inherent value-proposition of traditional four-year degrees.ย ย
Currently, only 51% of universities offer such microcredentials. This differs regionally around the world, with North American educational institutions more likely to provide these kinds of certifications compared to those in Europe.ย ย
However, 82% of higher education leaders said they plan to implement these certifications within the next five years.ย
The push for skill-based learning is being driven by the demands of employers who increasingly value practical, job-ready applicants. Traditional four-year degree programs alone could leave graduates unprepared for todayโs highly competitive job market.ย
