A new CoworkingCafe report reveals which U.S. coworking firm came out on top as the largest U.S. operator of 2022.
Unsurprisingly, IWG-owned Regus ranked number one, clocking in 832 locations by the end of 2022.
Distantly behind in the number two spot was WeWork with 246 locations, followed by Industrious with 135, yet another IWG-owned brand Spaces with 117 and Premier Workspaces with 87 locations.
Although coworking has already established itself as a mainstream workplace alternative, the industry as a whole has hit road bumps in the last few months of 2022. WeWork announced the closure of 40 underperforming locations, while IWG recently warned investors that its annual earnings for 2022 would likely be below market expectations.
“The U.S. economy is also slowly regaining traction after two straight quarters of economic contraction in 2022, and the coworking office market has seen a particularly active year,” the analysts for the study stated.
“Operators continued to innovate in an effort to keep up with the rapidly changing landscape of the up-and-coming market segment – even with employers requiring increased office presence, many coworking companies continue to announce new locations set to open in 2023.”
