Meta Will Decrease Its Office Space As It Adopts Hybrid Work

Instagram and Facebook parent company Meta has plans to offload some of its office space as it is less needed now due to the uptick in remote and hybrid working.

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, plans to decrease its office space as many of its employees are continuing to work from home.

Meta has given its employees the flexibility to determine how they work, and has offered most employees the option to do their jobs remotely full-time or to select a mix of in-office and home work.

The social-media giant will rearrange some office layouts and put desks and teams together; the goal is to make the spaces more dynamic.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg notified employees last Thursday that the company would implement a hiring freeze and take other steps to reduce the company’s costs, according to Fox Business.

As it reviews its physical office spaces, Meta might let some existing office leases expire, or could potentially consolidate floors across multiple buildings into a single one.

Meta isn’t the only company that wants to decrease its office space; a number of companies, including Yelp, have said that they plan to shed some excess office space as workers stay at home.
